A no-frills family bach—light on the land, adaptable in use, and finely tuned to climate and place.

A bach for living lightly

Conceived as a series of modest pavilions linked by open decks and thresholds, this family beach house is designed to work with its environment rather than impose upon it. Rational planning and a restrained palette of contextual materials ground the project in place, while operable screens and carefully framed openings allow the architecture to adapt to shifting conditions of climate, occupancy, and view. The house embraces flexibility as a core principle—spaces expand for family gatherings or contract to create quiet moments, always encouraging connection to the coast and its changing atmosphere.

Light on the land, the house treads carefully, minimising its footprint and celebrating the everyday rituals of family life. By resisting excess and focusing on adaptability, it demonstrates how thoughtful architecture can support resilience, comfort, and a sense of belonging—qualities that endure long beyond the holiday season.
